SunProtection Australia insists on using only the highest quality UPF50+ protective fabric. Many so called sun protective fabrics look similar but there is a vast spectrum of quality and UPF ratings (which vary from 15 to 50+).
Some sun protection garments have an application applied to them after manufacture which disappears after 30 washes rendering them ineffective. Fabrics also vary in terms of their cooling and sweat management properties. SunProtection Australia chooses to use fabric with protective and moisture management features woven in to its mesh construction insuring permanent, life long protection against ultraviolet radiation.
Our fabric is cooling in summer, thermal in winter and silken to the touch. It allows the breeze to penetrate while blocking 98% of harmful rays and is both sand and chlorine resistant. It may be the most comfortable and durable fabric you will wear.
The UPF rating on certain garments indicates how effective a fabric is at blocking out solar ultraviolet radiation and the material's capacity to prevent harmful UV rays from reaching your skin. It is similar to the SPF number denoting the effectiveness of sunscreens, except that UPF measures both UVB and UVA radiation blocked. (SPF measures the blockage of UVB radiation only.)
Our fabrics at SunProtection Australia are tested according to Australian/New Zealand standard AS/NZS4399. Fabrics like ours that test higher than UPF 50 are rated as UPF 50+ and block out up to 98% of UV
rays.
ARPANSA (the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency.) tested our fabric. To quote their http://www.arpansa.gov.au/Services/upf/index.cfm
Clothing provides one of the most convenient forms of protection against UVR but not all garments offer sufficient sun protection.
The unique protective, cooling and wicking properties are due to the fabric's weave.
It’s moisture management properties allow for rapid sweat evaporation keeping the wearer cooler, drier and extremely comfortable. It is antimicrobial insuring the garment is fresher for longer and the feel of the fabric against the skin is pure pleasure. The fabric also drapes beautifully and doesn't require an iron so it is ideal for resort or travel wear. The fabric also has thermal properties by simply wearing a layer beneath the protective garment rendering it effective in all seasons and conditions.
It has exceptional quick drying and easy care qualities and a high standard of durability. It is sand and chlorine resistant making garments last much longer than regular swimwear and most work wear.
Currently in development is our own brand of woven fabric called SunProtex which will be launched with the Coolamon Sport range of SunProtection garments.
The fluorescent colours meet all criteria of AS/NZ Standards for safety garments.
The durable nature of the fabric means that our work wear lasts for years.
