Skin Cancer Alert For Construction Workers

Construction workers are refusing to cover up, even though skin cancer claims almost 300 Queensland lives each year.

Researchers were shocked to find some workers were exposed to 30 times the recommended level of ultraviolet sunlight.

Their average exposure was five times the NHMRC recommendation.

The Queensland Cancer Fund was appalled.

“We need to change the culture that sees many workers going about their jobs without even a shirt, let alone a broad-brimmed hat and UV sunglasses,” executive director Graeme Brien said.
